Overview

La medicina desde sus inicios ha pasado por una serie de cambios y transformaciones en cuanto a su concepción y esencia, desde Mesopotamia, Edad Media, Antigüedad Clásica y Medicina Renacentista hasta nuestros días.

De esta manera, entre los siglos XVII y XIX se dieron revolucionarios descubrimientos como nos ilustrara en su obra literaria el Prof. Dr. Paul De Kruif, Los cazadores de microbios, una narrativa entre ciencia y buena literatura, donde muestra el inicio de una nueva etapa de la medicina incluyendo gabinetes, instrumental, microscopios, cultivos, con una dedicación minuciosa y paciente. En aquellas épocas destacan, por ejemplo y para nuestros propósitos, Antonio van Leeuwenhoek, uno de los primeros en asomarse a un mundo nuevo poblado de millares de especies diferentes de seres pequeñísimos, algunos feroces y mortíferos, bajo una lupa. Louis Pasteur descubre y define aquella peligrosidad de estos microbios; Robert Koch realiza una lucha contra la muerte al descubrir los bacilos que hoy en día llevan su nombre, entre otros grandes investigadores que han realizado valiosos y aún vigentes aportes a la medicina.

En el siglo XX cabe destacar la primera trasfusión sanguínea llevada a cabo gracias a los trabajos sobre grupos sanguíneos desarrollados por Karl Landsteiner; de la misma manera, sería impo- sible no mencionar los trasplantes de órganos, mencionando a Christian Barnard, por ser el primer cirujano en realizar con éxito un trasplante de corazón. En estas últimas cinco décadas es que se articula la relación entre la investigación médica protocolizada, la industria farmacéutica y la matemática, apoyándose en la Estadística como principal instrumento de medición, dotando a la Medicina de una base científica, la llamada «Medicina basada en la evidencia».

Ce livre soulève une question simple : comment couper court à cette prolifération de besoins artificiels ? Comment sortir par là même du consumérisme capitaliste ? La réflexion s'appuie sur des chapitres thématiques, consacrés à la pollution lumineuse, à la psychiatrie de la consommation compulsive ou à la garantie des marchandises, pour élaborer une théorie critique du consumérisme.

Chemin faisant, le livre évoque la théorie des besoins de Karl Marx, André Gorz et Agnes Heller. Pour ces auteurs, les besoins " authentiques " ont un potentiel révolutionnaire. Comme disait Marx, " une révolution radicale ne peut être que la révolution des besoins radicaux ".
